Leave and Absence Policies

You are entitled to 20 days of annual leave and 10 days of personal leave as well as the other leave types outlined in the National Employment Standards. This leave is pro-rated if you work part time.

Personal Leave

If you need to take a day off due to personal leave (ie: you are unwell or someone you take care of is unwell), please make sure that you call Bree on 0499 282 809 prior to 8:30am.

We don’t need a medical certificate if you are taking a single day of leave, however if you are unwell and don’t expect to be well by tomorrow, you’re better to go to the doctors TODAY rather than leave it until tomorrow. Two or more days of consecutive personal leave will require a medical certificate and doctors don’t like to backdate them.

Since the opportunity for hybrid work exists, you can opt to work from home if you are unwell but can still complete your days’ work. You will still need to call Bree prior to 8:30am on 0499 282 809. This also applies if you are quarantined due to Covid. 

We encourage you to stay home if you are sick. We do not subscribe to the ‘soldier on’ mentality – that only leads to poor quality work. We’d prefer you to take a day or two, get better, and then come back to work able to perform at your best.

If you are suffering from a mental illness, please note that Bree, too, has a chronic mental illness. If you are comfortable doing so, feel free to tell Bree confidentially about your condition – it can make things easier when your condition flares up.

Annual Leave

You are entitled to 4 weeks of annual leave which is accrued over each 12 month period. If you don’t use your annual leave during the year, it is rolled forward to the next year. If you work part time, leave is pro-rated.

The office will be closed between Christmas and New Years, and you can choose to either take those days as Annual Leave (if you have leave accrued), or as Unpaid Leave.

An email to Bree is sufficient to book your annual leave – simply state the first and last days you will be away. 

Time In Lieu

As a startup, our days are rarely a nice, clean 8am to 5pm. Salaries are paid on the understanding that there will be some unusual time worked, and are paid above award wages to compensate for that. Accordingly, time in lieu will not be accrued.
